Hello from Contigo HQ-

We know you’ve seen it all over our travel mugs, water bottles and kids bottles. AUTOSEAL® Technology – It knows when to close. But what exactly does that even mean?

Well, the simple answer is that the lid automatically seals so that you don’t have to worry about spills.

For those who want to dive deeper in to what the technology does or think it may be a load of irrelevant malarkey, then keep reading.

The Problem: Spills

It all started with a problem that we’ve have all encountered: spilling. It has happened to everyone and always seemed to happen at the wrong time; before a date, as you walk in to give a presentation or before a big job interview.

So we decided to come up with a solution to that problem. We designed a lid that would be able to seal everything in. No spills or leaks, even if it was knocked over in the car, on your desk or on the night stand next to your phone.

The cool part is that the seal happens automatically, so you don’t even have to think about it. We wanted to make it easy and intuitive so that it was as simple as pressing a button to drink and letting go to seal it, hence the AUTO…SEAL (tricky, huh?!).

The Solution: AUTOSEAL®

The idea seemed easy, but we have to admit, it was a bit complicated to create. Our designers and engineers spent countless hours crafting myriad designs (we’re kind of perfectionists). After a great deal of testing and refining, we ended with our first AUTOSEAL® travel mug and now the line has grown into the #1 selling* line of travel mugs (we’d call it a success). People have been such big fans that we decided to add it to our water bottle line and our kids water bottle line too!

In addition to being spill and leak proof, we also made AUTOSEAL®so it can be used with just one hand. So go ahead, keep texting dolphin emojis in that group chat or whatever else it is you do with your other free hand.

Here’s a video from our team if you want to learn more about AUTOSEAL®.

I just dropped my absolutely wonderful fantastic Contigo travel mug about 15 ft., and it survived! My name is Anthony Halley and I am a building Engineer at GM World HQ and I will include pictures.

My wife has your 20 once coffee mug and it does a great job keeping hot things hot and cold things cold, there is a small problem. My wife’s mug leaks mostly when it is hot. I’ve made sure that the lid was seated properly and still leak. Could let me know if I’m doing something wrong.

    Thank you for your time.

I just got a new Contigo Autoseal mug for Christmas today! I was washing the lid and a part popped out with 2 springs. Does this mean I need a replacement lid? I can’t tell how to fix it.

    Hi
I have a Contigo pink metal insulated drinking cup with auto seal and easy clean flip out mechanism in the lid and I LOVE my cup… but when I was cleaning the lid the springs came out and I can’t figure out how to re-insert them…. please help. If you could send me a video on how to re-insert them that would be great, or even just a detailed photo of where they go?
    Thanks

    Bonjour , Hi

Can I freeze water I mean 6oz to 8oz of water dircetly in the contigo 24 oz water bottle?

It will be cold for a longer time this way…because 24oz is a big container for water…

    Thanks
    MHGR

We don’t recommend that as there is a chance the plastic can crack.

I completed the online guarantee form and included 2 photos a few weeks ago and have yet to receive a response/status. This is the second time in less than 6 months the rubber O-ring fell out of the lid of my water bottle – this is on the replacement you send the last time.

Hi I have a 16 oz. coffee mug. I think its one of your 1st autoseal units. Its top is really hard to clean. No hinged seals 2011 copyright. actually its got a 2006 ignite usa on the bottom. Can I get a replacement lid for it. The bottom is about 2.5 inches and the new one with a good push to clean hinged seal has a 2 7/8″ base too big for my van cup holder. So it would be great if you could direct me to a solution.
    Thank you Chris

I recently purchased the Autospout Addison and notice that the suction pressure created when I drink is quite strong. I really have to work to get the water out, especially when its half full. It seems that the little rubber air valve created to ‘vent’ the pressure is too tight…Will this loosen up, or am I destined to battle this water sucking beast forever?

I really like the concept of autoseal however a ceramic interior is a deal breaker for me. Will you produce one? Preferably with a stainless steel exterior to preserve heat and prevent breakage.

I would like to know if you can buy the auto seal lids separately. Need a couple. I bought one from QVC a long time ago. The lid was bad. Didn’t send it back. Bought an other cup. No problems with it. It was past the time to send it back. So I have a cup with no lid. Wonder if I can buy extra lid.

    Thank you

Love love the no spill and keep my drinks hot and cold for long time. Use it for mostly color drinks.

My husband and I both have you mugs and love them but last night while my husband was cleaning the lid the “push to clean” sprang apart. We seem to have all the pieces but cannot re-assemble it.
Is there a way to re-assemble the lid or do we need to buy a new mug. It was a gift so we don’t have any type of receipt.
Thank you for and help you can offer.

Our son gave us our first contigo coffee mugs about 10 years ago. I think we still have them. We have a whole cupboard of them now. Kid ones for grandkids which are great. No spills at table even with 7 grandchildren. These are the greatest cups ever. When I was in the hospital my husband brought me coffee in 2 mugs in the morning and it stayed hot most of the day. Thank you for making such a great mug.

So glad you love it, Kathy!

I have the Autoseal West Loop, and it is awesome. I’ve had it for a while and use it all the time. Given that, the little rubber piece that actually seals the opening is breaking down. Do you sell replacement sealing pieces?

    Thanks, Brian

    • Contigo

      Hi Brian!
Glad you’re loving the West Loop! We do not sell the sealing piece on its own. Your best bet is to buy a replacement lid, which you can do here.

You can also reach out to our customer service team here to find out if this is covered by our Lifetime Guarantee. Hope this helps!

Hi, I have a kids’ water bottle with a detachable straw and the straw disappeared. I see you can buy 4 straws on your website for $2.50, but shipping to Canada, where I live, is $19.50. And I really only want one anyway. Is there a retailer in Canada where I can buy replacement straws? Thanks! Or anyway I can get one for cheaper?

  • David

I have the Auto Seal Addisson, the o-ring came out and I can’t get it to go back in! Retuirned to my retailer and replaced it.
Now it did it again, got it replaced. BUT! The retailer refuses to replace it again!

You folks need to get your heads out of your enginering butt and design a seal that goes back it!

It would help in cleaning also, have you ever looked under that seal!!!!!!!

    • Contigo

Hi David, we’re so sorry to hear this. Please reach out to our customer care team here for a replacement item.

  • Cynthia

After reading some stories of customers with issues on the lids breaking apart or breaking I was wonder if you will ever sell replacement lids at your client’s stores.

  • Cheryl

Is it possible to make a glass water bottle but have the lid be a one handed use autoseal lid? Thanks!

    • Contigo

Great idea, Cheryl! We’ll pass it along to our engineers!
